I live in Masab Tank, Hyderabad. Iam using BSNL basic broadband connection since many years. These days,BSNL is asking us to upgrade to Fiber connection. But. I wanted to check other operators also like Airtel or Jio Fiber before I can finalize on one.

I believe BSNL will force us to buy new router with their Fiber service whereas it is free in case of Airtel or Jio. Next thing is BSNL charged 3000+ deposit when I installed my landline many years ago. I believe it is a big headache to get this refund amount back without follow ups and escalations. Will they ask us further deposit if I opt for BSNL Fiber?

Lastly, Since I already have Airtel DTH service, Is it better to bundle it with Airtel Fiber instead of going for BSNL Fiber as OTT will be an Add- on thing with Airtel Fiber? Looking forward to your Inputs.

If BSNL Fiber works well in your area, it’s actually a decent option, but the experience depends a lot on the local exchange and last-mile maintenance. Speed and stability are generally fine, but fault resolution can be slow compared to private players.

BSNL usually does not force a specific router, but many local franchise partners do push their own ONT/router and charge extra. Officially, you can use your own compatible fiber ONT. Also, in most cases BSNL does not ask for a fresh security deposit for existing landline customers migrating to fiber, but this again depends on the local office, worth confirming in writing before proceeding.

Airtel and Jio are much smoother in terms of installation, support, and transparency. Router is typically provided free, and there’s no deposit headache. Since you already have Airtel DTH, bundling with Airtel Fiber usually makes more sense. Billing is simpler, support is better, and OTT apps are easy add-ons if you want them.

If Airtel or Jio Fiber is available at your location, I’d suggest going with one of them for a hassle-free experience. BSNL Fiber is fine mainly if pricing is your top priority or if private fiber options are unreliable in your area.

I am from Hyderabad. I was loyal to BSNL for many years. After Landline, I upgraded to their Broadband and IPTV. I had to purchase router and it was all good until it's working fine. But once there is issue with the line, all 3 services were down and resolution used to take 1-2 days and no proper point of contact. I finally terminated the services, not without going to their 2-3 offices.

I would suggest to opt for Airtel for relatively better service and leave of mind, pay with Axis Airtel credit card if you have, to get 25% of on the payments.

BSNL has only postpaid service. You pay monthly fee whether you use it or not. Jio & Airtel has an option for prepaid service.

Both Jio & Airtel provides free landline service with fiber. But, if you want to retain your existing landline number, you have to stick with BSNL.

Insist on Fiber to home connection and Avoid the "Air Fiber" services. Speeds won't be greater than your 4G/5G mobile phone in the case of air fiber devices. Also data limit of Air Fiber is 1000gb, whereas fiber to home is 3300gb.
