My father(53M) has never taken a loan due to which he has a -1 score , recently I asked him to get a credit card for discount on electronics for new house purchases. He's comfortable of making 1.5-2L fd for a card which he'll use for a year or 2 until he has a good score. Pls recommend good cards or maybe with different banks which give discounts frequently.

if you want good fd card frequent discount on electronics you can have icici instant platinum chip fd card lifetime free you can instantly open online if you have saving account or go near by icici bank to get card you can earn 7.25% interest on fd of 15 months. icici have more frequent 10% cashback on sales in amazon flipkart croma. they will report the card as secured credit card in cibil so his score can greatly improve in one year.

since you have hdfc bank you contact your bank if father has good income they may issue hdfc unsecured card or you can get hdfc millenia or hdfc regalia with fd . you can get hdfc millenia debit card for 2.5% cashback on online spends

if you able to get sbi cashback card it would be great card for you without thinking of sales or discount you can buy anytime with 5% cashback i am not sure if they issue with fd or not

My father maintains 50L+ on SBI and has good relationship with pnb, axis and bob. He doesn't have a hdfc or icici bank account as they weren't relevant ( distrust in private banks in old times maybe)

since you have very good relationship with sbi try to contact sbi branch and ask to provide any of these cards preference 1) sbi bpcl octane Rupay or 2) sbi cashback excellent cards for your family spends though both are paid you can easily recover the amount you paid in 1 month. if bank gave sbi bpcl octane thats enough no need to go with sbi cashback

Hi Raj 164,
Different Credit Cards serve different purposes. However, as your father only need credit card to improve credit score you may go for any credit card depending on your/ your father's expanses. As a guidance, i will name few credit cards with benefits of each.
(a) Club Vistara - Complimentary Air Tickets
(b) Yes bank Private - Discount on Book My Show
(c) BPCL Octane - 7.5 % Value Back on Fuel Transactions via BPCL Patrol Pumps.
we may discuss further if you are interested.
thx

Simply save or cash back card?
I have rarely come across anyone obtaining the SBI Cashback CC on an FD basis from past 1 year. However, if you can secure it as a LTF card on an FD basis, I highly recommend going for it without any hesitation.
If that's not an option, I suggest opting for the SBI SimplySAVE RuPay CC. This card is easily approved on an FD basis, and since you are investing a significant amount in the FD, you will receive a higher credit limit (80-90% of the FD amount). After six months, you can apply for an unsecured Cashback/BPCL Octane or any desired SBI CC and potentially receive the same or a higher credit limit as your previous SBI secured card. Typically, applying for any unsecured SBI CC initially results in a credit limit of around ₹40,000.
