Is NPS better or are there any safe alternatives?

I have recently started my job and am planning to invest in NPS. However, I'm unsure if it is the best option for maximum returns. Are there other safe alternatives that offer similar or higher minimum returns?

NPS great option but for retirement and good tax benefits.. Long term only.
Highly recommended no matter what others say.. specific purpose.. and lock in helps us not withdraw.. and if u have nps via your employer then. even better.. returns will be like any nifty 50 index fund.. lowest charges.. BUT Long-term.. earlier the better.. if u can invest in PPF u can definitely invest in nps
