Are all these add ons absolutely necessary? Which are the most important ones? Can anyone share their personal experience here?

Well , I will list below the most practical covers to opt for:
1. Nil Depreciation - There won't be any deduction for depreciation in case of a repair claim.
2.Consumables cover - Consumables like nuts , bolts , engine oils for a huge chunk of claims and are generally not payable unless you opt for this cover.
3.Engine protection - Damage to engine due to ingress of water or seizing of engine due to oil leakage is considered as consequential damage and is not payable in motor insurance unless you opt for this cover.
4.Return to invoice cover - If there is a major claim leading to total loss of the vehicle then this cover comes into force and will reimburse will the entire invoice amount including registration charges and insurance charges.

These are the most important covers to opt for , however you can even opt for all the other covers but most of them are rarely useful.
