The Central Government started a new scheme to empower pregnant and economically weaker women that was renowned as Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY). This PMMVY is a government initiative that focuses on expecting mothers to compensate them due to loss of wages during and after their pregnancy. This scheme runs under the guidelines of the National Food Security Act 2013 which uses web-based MIS software for implementation. Under this PMMVY scheme, a cash initiative of Rs.5000/- would be provided to pregnant women and lactating mothers.

Objectives of PMMVY:

It has been observed that an average Indian woman is deficient in nutrition during pregnancy due to limited access to food. The government has always started several lucrative health schemes to provide basic nutrition to women and children. Here are some of the vital objectives of PMMVY that are pointed below.

• The primary objective of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) that give partial compensation for wage loss to pregnant women and lactating mothers.

Documents Required for registration

This scheme is constituted for pregnant women and lactating mothers must submit documents like KYC- PAN card, Aadhar of women and her husband, cast certificate, domicile certificate, income certificate, bank account details, Passport size photo, and Mobile number. Upon submission of the above documents, a notification will be sent to the applicant's registered mobile number.

Eligibility Criteria

This scheme targets those women who are citizens of India, older than 19 years and exclusively pregnant and expecting mothers. This scheme is valid for women to support two living children. The applicant women should have lost wages due to pregnancy. This scheme is eligible under the PMMVY scheme within 270 days from childbirth.

PMMVY Registration Process

To register for this scheme, the following steps must be taken:

• The applicant must visit the website: pmmvy.wcd.gov.in.
• The user must click the citizen login option.
• The applicant needs to enter a valid mobile number to verify the number through OTP.
• The user needs to fill in the registration form with the necessary details and upload all the documents.
• The user must submit the registration form save the confirmation for future reference and save PMMVY Login ID and passwords.

Criteria for economically weaker sections that are eligible for this scheme:

• This scheme is eligible for women belonging to scheduled castes and scheduled tribes.
• This scheme is eligible for pregnant women who are disabled.
• The pregnant women are holding e-Shram Cards.
• This scheme is eligible for women holding MGNREGA job cards.
• This scheme is eligible for those pregnant women whose net family income should be less than Rs. 8 lakh per annum.
• This scheme is also available for women who are benefitted from Kisan Samman Nidhi.
