1 Day Late Payment Affected My Credit Cards – Need Help & Suggestions

Hi everyone,
I’m 20 years old and currently working as a freelancer, earning around ₹1–2 lakhs per month. I maintain a SBI Lotus Savings Account, which I opened when I got my first PAN card. I have regular banking activity and healthy monthly transactions.

A few months ago, I made a mistake with an mPokket loan – I forgot to repay one EMI on time, and it was reported as 1 Day DPD (Days Past Due) on my credit reports. Even though it was just 1 day late and I’ve cleared all dues since, that single mark is affecting my credit card approvals.

Here’s my current credit profile:

📊 Credit Report Portfolio:

CIBIL Score: 742

CRIF Score: 660

Experian Score: 747

Late Payment: 1 day (only once, reported by mPokket)

Banking Activity: Regular ₹1–2 lakh monthly transactions via freelancing income

Savings Account: SBI Lotus

🔹 Will this one late payment continue to hurt my future credit card or personal loan applications?
🔹 How long will it take to recover from this?
🔹 What can I do to improve my profile and get approvals like others with no late payments?

I see my friends and cousins enjoying credit card benefits, and I really want to build my credit properly too. Any guidance or personal experience would mean a lot to me 🙏

Thanks in advance!

It will be fine with time.

What can do is drop an email to loan company and request them to remove that remark.
May be they will remove it based on your history.

But I think you have learnt the lesson and be careful from now onwards.

Building credit card history also rakes time. So don't try to run so fast when it's time to focus on grooming yourself and keep up the work you are doing.

A single-day payment delay typically has a minimal impact on your credit score, which usually recovers within six months.

However, real-world approvals often depend less on the score itself and more on how individual bank employees interpret your report. Some will overlook a 1-day DPD if they understand it's a minor slip, while others, especially at Government banks with stricter policies may treat even minor delays seriously. In some cases, it's not the bank as a whole, but the specific verifier who may act rigidly. If you do face a rejection, it’s not the end of the road. Wait six months and try again — a different bank or a different verifier might assess your case more fairly. Besides that, one delay, your profile seems strong enough to get past such minor setbacks in due time.
