"My car's windshield got damaged, so I had it replaced. Because of that, the FASTag attached to it was also removed. I went to the toll plaza and explained that since the windshield was changed, the FASTag is missing. I asked them to deduct the toll amount from my FASTag account using my vehicle number, but they refused. Even though I had a sufficient balance in my FASTag account, they didn't process it and I had to pay the toll along with a penalty."
 
I don't think you can deduct toll amount using vehicle number. The FASTag needs to be physically there, either pasted on the windshield or in person with you at hand for them to scan. You should apply for replacement FASTag from your tag provider.
