HDFC Swiggy cashback issue

I’ve been facing a recurring issue with the cashback calculation on my Swiggy HDFC card. Each month, certain transactions that should qualify for 5% cashback—such as those made on Amazon or Meesho—are only earning 1%.

Whenever I contact customer support, they attribute it to the merchant category code (MCC), stating that the transaction falls under a vendor not eligible for 5% cashback.

My question is: is there any way to prevent this issue? Specifically, is it possible to determine the MCC of a merchant (like Amazon or Meesho) before making a transaction on online platforms?

I faced a similar issue in May, so I wrote an email to HDFC CC Customer Support

describing the problem and included screenshots of the relevant transactions and my statement. Initially, I received the same response: Transaction not eligible due to MCC code.... blah blah 😑

To verify, I reviewed my previous orders and past statements, and found that I had consistently received 5% cashback for similar transactions from both Amazon and Flipkart. I sent this evidence to HDFC, stating that this transaction should also qualify for the 5% cashback, as you had previously credited cashback for similar purchases from the same app. Subsequently, I received following response and the full cashback amount was credited to my account by the end of the month.

Fun fact: According to their cashback capping policy, I was eligible for ₹1500 in total. Interestingly, they credited absolute 1%(₹351.08) + 4%(₹1404.32) cashback. 🤑

I am facing same issue. They provide 1% cashback on all transactions except one on Flipkart and Amazon. Cashback for these transactions came later.

HDFC Swiggy is not suitable card.

I have also faced similar issues. The thing is it's not worth it to waste my time and keep going back and forth. They say certain MCC code of certain merchants are eligible for 5%. So I have stopped using it on Amazon and Flipkart.
