For 6 years, I’ve responsibly used basic credit cards (SBI, IDFC, HDFC, BOB, YES, etc.), maintaining a 770+ credit score, 100% on-time payments, and limits up to ₹1.1L. Yet today, despite my spotless record, but at this time my every new application—basic or premium—is rejected without explanation.
Is there something I’m missing? If anyone can guide me or help secure my desired card, I’d be deeply grateful.

  • It might be because your credit portfolio does not align with your income, according to the bank.

  • Revaluate your credit portfolio and close unnecessary CCs which doesn't aligns with your spending habits.
  • As per my personal experiences, being a member of HDFC Preferred or Imperia Banking Programme make it easier to get Premium HDFC CCs.

The existing highest limit which you have got is rather small if you go for a premium card and it may be screened out noti g you already have 6 cards but all have Rs 1.1 lakh or less limit.

For basic card, your income, your total usage and limits available may be indicating that you are overleveraged. Assess what it you total annual income and what is the total credit facilities currently showing in your CIBIL (not only cards). That may be the answer. Rest every bank has their own criteria to give card and the reasons for banks may be different. Banks also see how many cards you have applied recently and if the number is high it indicates you are credit hungry.

  • Check your CIBIL & Experian reports for any hidden flags or remarks.
  • Pause applications for 2–3 months to reset your credit inquiries.
  • Try applying internally (upgrade offers) or co-branded cards with existing banks.
  • Consider contacting the bank’s credit card escalation team for manual review.

If you share your preferred card goal, I may help you with a tailored path to get it approved. 😊💳
