Few days back I got an email from ICICI with a LTF Offer for ICICI Sapphiro. I got interested (didn’t apply though) as ICICI Sapphiro is one of the most Premium Cards offered by ICICI after Emeralde. Sapphiro comes with a Joining Fees of Rs. 6500 + Taxes and Annual Fees of Rs. 3500+ Taxes.
I did some digging and found out that this Card is being offered as part of ICICI Alumni Program under which alumni of Premier B-Schools, Undergrad Colleges (IITs, NITs, etc.) are being offered Sapphiro Card as LTF.
Before looking at why I decided not to apply, let’s look at some of the Amazing Things about this card?

Why Did I not apply for this card even though it was being offered LTF?

- Complimentary Domestic (4/ Quarter) and International (2 / Year) Lounge Access. But you’d have to spend a min of Rs 5,000 in quarter to avail the Domestic Lounge Access.
- Complimentary Spa Access on Domestic Airport (2 / Year).
- BOGO on BookMyShow. Rs. 500 discount on the second ticket, 2X per month.
- Reward Rate of 0.25% - 1%. 0.25% on Utilities and Insurance Spends. 0.5% on Domestic Spends. 1% on International Spends
- Fuel Surcharge Waiver

Why Did I not apply for this card even though it was being offered LTF?
- For a Premium Card, the reward rate is really bad. There are several beginner cards out there (Apay, SBI Cashback, etc.) offering MUCH better cashback.
- I have multiple cards offering both Domestic and International Lounge Access. It doesn’t make sense for me to get a new Card just because of this.
