I generally keep extra funds in saving accounts. With respect to MAB of 1Lakh, 5Lakh, 10Lakh, is HNI account worth it? If yes what accounts to consider!
A High Net Worth Individual (HNI) is an investor in the Indian stock market with a net worth typically over ₹5 crore, though there’s no official threshold for this classification. In the context of Initial Public Offerings (IPOs), the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) considers investors who invest more than ₹2 lakhs in a public issue as Non-Institutional Investors (NIIs), which includes HNIs.
There are number of benefits which comes with it like Priority Access to IPOs, Dedicated Relationship Manager, Lower Brokerage Fees, Priority Customer, Premium Investable products and more. If you think that you might want these types of benefits that you must go for it. You should be willing to pay some extra money to avail these services
If you are anyway keeping this much funds in your account for emergency or long term purposes, then you can upgrade it. You'll get premium experiences. If you are ok with 10L balance, then upgrade to Axis burgundy account, all your family members will enjoy benefits, you'll get their Magnus Burgundy credit card which has N number of pros (check online) and burgundy relationship manager as well among all other benefits (check on their website).
If you are comfortable with 5L balance, instead of going with Axis or HDFC, go with IDFC Select HNI Account, (can request for Wealth upgrade too though min. req. is 10L for 1-2 months but they might consider). here, you'll get benefits like increased debit card limits ~6L, select credit card which is okay for offers and some lounge accesses and their one of the best debit card (Select) which gives 2+2 lounge access without any conditions
For 1 to 5L or more, you can consider HDFC's HNI program, but they have not so good benefits, only benefit is if you are aiming for their best cards (Infinia, DCB or Regalia Gold) then they'll consider your request if you are already in their HNI program.
