I want to share my experience with Kotak regarding an FD-backed credit card so others don’t face the same issue.
I took a Kotak FD-backed credit card around September 2025. This was my first credit card and first CIBIL account, so I was careful with payments. Later, I had to pause the card, and on 28 November 2025 I broke the FD and withdrew the money. At that time, I remember seeing a condition that said the FD could be relinked within 6 months, otherwise the card would be deactivated. Based on that, I assumed I could relink the FD and continue with the same card.
In February 2026 (around 14 Feb), which is well within 3 months, I went to the bank to relink the FD. I was then told that this relink option has been discontinued and it’s no longer possible to relink the FD to the same card. The only suggestion I got was to apply for a new FD-backed card.
This is frustrating because I followed what was shown earlier and came back well before the 6-month period. I also don’t have any dues on the card—in fact, I had overpaid, so there’s a small credit balance. Still, I’m being asked to close the old card and start again, which affects my credit history unnecessarily.
