Ok, In case of SIP start investing in a good Flexi cap fund which will give you a good return in long term or if you want to take high risk as compare to flexi cap then go for Small Cap funds.
And in case of lumpsum wait for more correction in market make a good buy with good no. of units.

Sip of 1000 choose the any flexi cap .U can diversify to small cap or midcap later.Returns on midcap and small cap will be scary in a market fall so better to avoid in ur first attempt at sip.
Always better to do ur own research and proceed.Go on to value research choose any fund and Check track record for past 5 year.
Returns above the index return or not, volatility and fund manager etc.
