E-shram card
An e-Shram card is a virtual document for all home-based workers, self-employed workers, and wage workers working in the unorganised sector. It helps them access various government benefits and schemes.

Eligibility criteria for E-shram Card​

Anyone working in an unorganised sector (unorganised worker) and aged between 16 and 59 can apply for an e-Shram card. They must also have a valid mobile number linked with an Aadhaar card and should not be in the tax-paying slab.

Features of E-shram Card​

  • The E-shram has a unique number known as Universal Account Number or UAN.
  • Universal Account Number is a 12-digit number uniquely assigned to each unorganised worker after registration on the eShram portal. This is a permanent number and valid for a lifetime.
  • Workers can update their E-shram details through the E-shram portal , UMANG App and CSCs booth.

Documents Required for E-shram Card​

  • The worker's Aadhaar Number is linked to their mobile number. If a worker does not have an Aadhaar-linked mobile number, they can visit the nearest CSCs and register for an E-shram card through biometric authentication.

  • The applicant must provide details of their work, including the type of work, sector, and the name of the organisation or establishment.
  • Proof of Age ( birth or school leaving certificates)
  • Proof of Residence (rent agreement or a utility bill such as electricity or gas bill)
  • Proof of Work (letter from the employer or a payslip)

Benefits of E-shram Card​

  • Workers with an e-Shram card will receive a monthly pension of Rs.3,000 after attaining 60 years.
  • They will also receive death insurance of Rs.2 lakh and financial aid of Rs.1 lakh in the case of partial handicap.
  • If the beneficiary of the e-shram card dies, the benefits are given to their spouse.
  • E-shram cards help you find a job, train, and access more state and union government schemes and benefits ( National Career Service, Skill India, etc.)

Steps to Apply for an E-shram Card Online?​

Step 1- Go to the e-Shram portal's self-registration page (Link - ****.register.eshram.gov.in/#/user/self)

Step 2- Input the Aadhaar-linked mobile number, captcha code, and complete the OTP verification

Step 3- Fill up the form with all the necessary information , educational qualifications, and work-related information

Step 4- Enter bank details and select self-declaration (The Bank account should be Aadhaar-seeded).

Step 5- Click 'Preview' to review the entered details, then click 'Submit.'

Step 6- You will receive another OTP; enter it and click the 'Verify' option.

Step 7- The e-Shram card is generated and displayed on the screen.

Step 8- Optionally, download the e-Shram card by clicking the download option.

Steps to Apply/Download/update E-Shram Card through UMANG App​

Step 1- Download the UMANG app from the Play Store or App Store

Step 2- Log in to your UMANG account through your registered mobile number or Aadhaar number

Step 3- Enter e-Shram on the search tab of the UMANG app and click on the search button

Step 4- Choose the service required

Steps to Check Payment Status and Balance in an e-Shram Card​

Step 1- Go to the e-Shram portal's self-registration page (Link - ****.register.eshram.gov.in/#/user/self)

Step 2- Click the 'E-Aadhaar Card Beneficiary Status Check' link.

Step 3- Enter the e-Shram number/UAN number or Aadhar card card number

Step 4- Click the 'Submit' button.

Step 5- check the payment status displayed on the page.
