ICICI Bank has recently announced significant changes to its credit card features and charges, effective February 1, 2024. These adjustments follow a trend among leading banks in India, including HDFC Bank, IDFC First Bank, and SBI Card, which also implemented alterations in 2023, particularly regarding limitations on airport lounge access within the country.

Here's a breakdown of the key changes introduced by ICICI Bank:

Rewards on Rent Payments and E-wallet Loading:

Starting February 1, 2024, ICICI Bank will no longer offer reward points on rent payments and e-wallet loading transactions for most credit cards. The exception to this rule is the Amazon Pay ICICI Bank credit card.

Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) Fee:

Effective February 1, 2024, a Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) fee of 1% plus taxes will be applied to all international transactions conducted in Indian currency at international locations or with merchants in India registered in foreign nations. This change will be uniform across all ICICI Bank credit cards.

Rewards on Utility Payments:

As of February 1, 2024, reward points for utility transactions, including government payments, will now be included in the utility payment category. This modification
applies universally to all ICICI Bank credit cards.

Airport Lounge Access Criteria:

Commencing April 1, 2024, customers holding specific ICICI Bank credit cards, such as the Coral series and others, will need to spend a minimum of ₹35,000 in the preceding calendar quarter to unlock one complimentary airport lounge access for the subsequent quarter.

Eligible Cards for Lounge Access Criteria:

The updated criteria for availing complimentary domestic airport lounge access will apply to various ICICI Bank credit cards, including the Coral series, Expressions Credit Card, HPCL SUPER SAVER cards, MakeMyTrip ICICI Bank Platinum Credit Card, and others.

Accessing Complimentary Airport Lounges:
  • Eligible cardholders must present their valid, unexpired cards along with a valid air ticket or boarding pass for travel on the same or the next day at participating lounges.
  • An authorization amount of ₹2 will be charged on each eligible card presented at the entrance. Free access generally applies to the cardholder, and charges may apply for accompanying guests.
  • The lounge access program is provided by a third party and is subject to third-party terms and conditions.
All of these changes reflect a significant evolution of ICICI Bank's credit card services in line with changing industry trends and customer trends. Cardholders are encouraged to carefully consider accommodations for benefits and terminal access offers.
