As my debit card(Indian Bank) is expiring, I dropped an sms to the number(9940304243) provided by the BANK. Has anyone tried this, how long does it take?

Depends on whether bank has successfully processed your request and your location.

My Personal Experience:

• PSU banks(SBI, Canara) : 15 to 30 days via India Post
• Private banks(HDFC, ICICI, AXIS) : 3 to 7 days via Bluedart or Delivery

I have been using HDFC since 2017 but never received a single HDFC document, cheque book, Debit card, credit cards etc. via India Post.

Bro check net banking, PSU banks usually issue new cards 30 days before the expiry and they get dispatched within a week.
