I recently had to catch a flight to Bangalore from Kolkata Airport and spent 2 hours at the Travel Club Domestic Lounge of Kolkata which is located at Terminal 1 and Here's my experience:
Total Domestic lounges at the airport?
There are 2 lounges at Kolkata Airport:
Terminal 1 (Domestic Boarding)
Several cards provide access to the Travel Club Lounge, including:
You can enter only 3 - 4 hours before your flight, but you can stay longer if your flight gets delayed.
Travel Club Lounge Location:
The lounge is conveniently located just after security checks on the first floor, easily accessible by escalators or lifts (Near Gate number - 24 & 25).
Travel Club Lounge Check-IN:
For check-in, there was a single counter for both normal and premium lounge access. Due to card declines, there was a queue, which increased the waiting period.
Travel Club Lounge Map:
The Travel Club Lounge is divided into two parts: the premium lounge and the normal lounge. They are adjacent to each other and share the same washroom. In general, this lounge is relatively small compared to lounges in other metropolitan cities.
Travel Club Lounge Seating Arrangements:
The seating arrangements are basic, and the space is limited, especially considering the number of passengers. Some seats have charging points nearby, while others don't. The premium lounge feels slightly less crowded, but there aren't significant differences in seating arrangements compared to the normal lounge.
Travel Club Lounge Amenities:
The food options are standard, with a live counter for omelettes. There's also a takeaway option available if the buffet is crowded. The menu includes English breakfast, Biriyani, omelettes, fruit salads, South Indian breakfast, parathas,some vegetarian and non vegetarian items. Taste wise it's okay.
Beverage options include milk, tea, coffee, and cold drinks.
Note that the food options may vary based on breakfast, lunch, and dinner timings.
Alcohol:
Alcoholic beverages are available but are chargeable.
Staff Behaviour:
The staff were helpful, although I didn't have much interaction with them during my stay.
Final Verdict:
The Travel Club Airport Lounge delivers a satisfactory experience, offering essential amenities for weary travellers seeking respite. While not the pinnacle of luxury lounges, it serves its purpose admirably. Areas for improvement include the absence of designated workspaces and occasional overcrowding leading to a bustling atmosphere. With average food offerings and a few missed opportunities for enhancement, I would rate this lounge experience a solid 3 out of 5 stars.
